La Dade Kotopon: Concerns Emerge Over Assembly Members’ Stance on MCE Nominee

Several Assembly Members in the La Dade Kotopon Constituency, who also serve as executives within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have drawn criticism from some party supporters and residents over their reported opposition to President John Mahama’s nominee for Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

According to sources within the constituency, key figures including Christopher Oko Gogoe (Constituency Vice Chairman and Assembly Member for Adiembra), Helena Fofo Armah (Deputy Constituency Women’s Organizer and Assembly Member for Tse Addo Mantiase), Emmanuel Kissei (Deputy Constituency Treasurer and Assembly Member for Kowe Abese Abafum), and Bashiru Mahama (Ward Coordinator for the Cantonments Ward) are believed to have opposed the nomination of Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei.

Sources close to the local assembly suggest that the group may have preferred Hon. Aaron Anang Akrong, Assembly Member for the Labone Electoral Area, for the MCE role. It is further alleged that some of the Assembly Members involved had expressed their intention not to support any nominee who was not an Assembly Member themselves. Observers interpret this position as a possible indication of internal disagreements over leadership preferences within the party.

The development has sparked mixed reactions among constituents. In parts of the constituency, some residents have expressed disappointment, viewing the situation as a sign of division within the party. Instances of public disapproval have been reported, including verbal expressions of frustration during recent gatherings.

“We believe Hon. Alfredos has what it takes to foster development and unity,” one resident said. “There should be consensus in decisions like this.”

Others have called on the NDC leadership to provide guidance and promote unity, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and internal cohesion ahead of the next electoral cycle.

While no official disciplinary actions have been announced, a section of the party’s grassroots base is urging swift resolution of the matter to maintain public trust and party discipline.

The NDC has not issued a formal statement on the matter at the time of this report.
