Legal tensions continue to escalate between gospel musician Empress Gifty and controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa, officially known as Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, as the singer’s legal team demands a public apology and retraction over defamatory comments.

Legal Threat Over “So-Called Lawyer” Remark

Lawyers from Tawiah-Amprofi & Associates, led by Patrick Tawiah-Amprofi, have formally issued a letter to Agradaa, demanding she publicly retract her recent statements and apologise for referring to the lead counsel as a “so-called lawyer.”

The law firm described Agradaa’s statement as “derogatory and defamatory”, referencing a viral social media video in which she mocked the lawyer following their first court appearance in the GH¢20 million defamation case.

“Your reference to him as a ‘so-called lawyer’ is derogatory and defamatory to both his person and this law firm. We therefore demand that you retract and apologise to him using the same medium within seven days of receiving this letter,” the letter stated.

The lawyers warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would result in legal action.

“Please take notice that if you fail to retract and apologise as indicated above within seven days, we shall initiate legal proceedings against you,” the letter concluded.

Court Rejects Agradaa’s Motion to Strike Out Lawsuit

The demand comes after the Tema High Court, presided over by Justice P. Baffoe-Bonnie, dismissed Agradaa’s application to strike out the defamation case filed by Empress Gifty.

In a ruling delivered on June 26, 2025, the court also imposed a GH¢6,000 fine on Agradaa for undue delay in proceedings, citing the absence of her legal counsel during a prior hearing.

The lawsuit was filed after Agradaa made explosive allegations during a May 2025 livestream, accusing Empress Gifty of immoral conduct. The gospel musician is seeking:

  • GH¢20 million in damages for slander and libel
  • A permanent injunction restraining Agradaa from making further defamatory comments
  • The removal of all offending content from online platforms

Agradaa had earlier mocked the legal action, claiming “any idiot can go to court,” and has publicly vowed to “end Empress Gifty’s marriage” with purported evidence.

Next Steps

The matter is set to return to court on July 16, 2025, with Agradaa now under pressure to either issue the demanded apology or face further legal consequences.
