Atalanta Agree Deal to Sign Kamaldeen Sulemana from Southampton

Italian Serie A side Atalanta BC have finalized a transfer agreement to sign Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana from English Championship club Southampton.
The deal, which is expected to run until 2029, is reportedly valued at €17.5 million in instalments, with an additional €4 million in performance-based add-ons.
Long-Term Commitment from Atalanta
The move marks a significant step in Kamaldeen’s career, returning to a top European league after Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League. Atalanta have identified the 23-year-old as a key reinforcement for their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season, as they prepare for both domestic and European competition.
Sulemana is expected to undergo medical examinations in Bergamo over the weekend before the official unveiling early next week.
Kamaldeen’s Career So Far
Kamaldeen Sulemana joined Southampton from French club Stade Rennais in January 2023 but was unable to help the club avoid relegation. Despite a challenging spell in England, he remained a standout performer, known for his blistering pace, dribbling skills, and direct attacking threat.
Before his move to Rennes, Kamaldeen gained international attention with Danish side FC Nordsjælland, where his performances attracted interest from several top clubs across Europe.

Boost for Atalanta and Black Stars
For Atalanta, Sulemana’s signing reflects their strategy of investing in young, dynamic talent capable of adapting to Gian Piero Gasperini’s high-intensity system. The club sees him as a long-term asset, potentially replicating the success of previous talents nurtured in Bergamo.
The move is also seen as a positive development for the Ghana national team (Black Stars), with Sulemana now competing in a top-five European league ahead of the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers and 2026 World Cup preparations.
