Interior Minister Commissions Modern UPSA Police Station to Strengthen Campus Security

On May 6, 2025, Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, officially commissioned a new police station at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). This initiative aims to bolster campus security and enhance policing services for both the university and its surrounding communities.
Enhancing Campus Security
The newly established police station is equipped with modern facilities, including a case management room, male and female cells, a Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), a Criminal Investigations Office, a Station Officer’s office, an armoury, an exhibit room, a kitchenette, and visitors’ washrooms. These amenities are designed to support comprehensive law enforcement operations on campus.
Government’s Commitment to Public Safety
During the commissioning ceremony, Minister Mohammed-Mubarak reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening security infrastructure across the nation. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between educational institutions and security agencies to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the broader community.

The Vice Chancellor of UPSA, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, expressed gratitude to the government and the Ghana Police Service for their support in realizing the project. He highlighted the university’s proactive approach to security as a reflection of its commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment.
The commissioning event was attended by notable figures, including the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, members of the Police Management Board, and representatives from the university community. Their presence underscored the significance of the initiative in promoting safety and security within educational settings.
