The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has supervised the destruction of a 40 foot container of unhygienic diapers imported from Spain to prevent the products from reaching consumers in Ghana.

The consignment, which contained loose, unpackaged and unhygienic bale diapers, was destroyed at the Vigour Safe Disposal Site at Shai Hills.

The shipment was intercepted during a joint inspection at the Tema Port conducted by the FDA, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and National Security.

According to the FDA, the importer was responsible for the cost of disposing of the products, in addition to paying the applicable statutory fines.

The Authority has cautioned importers to secure all necessary FDA approvals before bringing products into the country. It stressed the importance of complying with regulatory requirements to safeguard public health and ensure that goods entering the Ghanaian market meet the required standards.
