The Data Protection Commission has stepped up efforts to enforce compliance among institutions that have not registered with the regulatory body, warning that failure to meet the requirements could attract sanctions.

The Commission’s Director of Data Compliance, Quintin Akrobotu, disclosed this to journalists, explaining that the affected institutions had been instructed to complete the mandatory registration process to ensure the proper protection of personal information.

According to him, some of the institutions engaged by the Commission had demonstrated a level of compliance and were in good standing but still needed to address certain outstanding requirements.

The institutions identified include Nuffield Clinic, Nyaho Medical Centre, Ghana International School, Airport Women’s Hospital and DCI Microfinance.

Mr. Akrobotu cautioned that institutions that fail to comply with the registration requirements risk facing sanctions in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

He urged all data controllers to register with the Commission and fulfil their obligations under the law to protect the personal information of their clients and members of the public.

The Commission’s enforcement efforts form part of broader measures to strengthen data protection and ensure that institutions responsible for handling personal information operate within the legal framework.
