A 14-year-old Junior High School (JHS) student, Keziah Mirekua, has died after reportedly setting herself on fire at a school park in Mpraeso Amanfrom in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The incident, which reportedly left the final year pupil of Mpraeso Amanfrom Basic School with severe burns, has raised concerns as conflicting accounts emerge from members of her family about the circumstances that may have led to her death.
According to her grandmother, Christiana Nkansah, the family was told that the incident could be connected to allegations of pregnancy involving a young man who allegedly denied responsibility.

Speaking to Adom News, the grandmother further indicated that Keziah reportedly made certain disclosures while receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
However, the deceased’s mother and sister have rejected suggestions that she was pregnant, insisting that the allegations do not reflect what they know about the situation.
In separate interviews with Adom News, the two relatives acknowledged that Keziah was reportedly in a relationship with a young man but maintained that she was not pregnant.

They suspect that other circumstances may have contributed to the incident and are urging the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine what actually happened.
The conflicting accounts have left several questions unanswered about the events preceding the teenager’s death.

As the family mourns the loss of the young student, relatives are seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
