Marine Police personnel have intercepted a wooden canoe carrying 2,030 slabs of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa at Ada in the early hours of Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to prevent the transportation of suspected narcotic substances through the country’s waterways and to disrupt networks involved in the movement of illicit drugs.

The patrol team reportedly approached and intercepted the canoe for inspection. However, the occupants allegedly jumped overboard after noticing the police patrol boat and escaped by swimming into the darkness.
The suspects abandoned the canoe and its contents, leaving the police to tow the vessel to the Marine Police base for further examination.
A subsequent search of the canoe led to the discovery of 29 sacks containing compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis. Each sack reportedly contained 70 slabs.
The police said the total number of slabs recovered was 2,030.
