The Government of Ghana has evacuated another 41 Ghanaians affected by xenophobicxenophobic attacks in South Africa, bringing them safely back to the country.
The returnees arrived at the Accra International Airport on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, where they were received by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, Head of the Delivery Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside directors of the Ministry and officials from various state institutions.
Representatives from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Health Service, Port Health Authority, Ghana Red Cross Society and the Ghana Armed Forces were also present to receive the evacuees.
Ambassador Ntrakwa welcomed the returnees and assured them of the government’s continued commitment to their safety, welfare and successful reintegration into their communities.
He urged them to remain hopeful as they begin a new chapter of their lives, encouraging them to put their skills, knowledge and experiences to productive use as they rebuild their lives and contribute to Ghana’s development.
The Ambassador also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaborating with relevant institutions and stakeholders to support the returnees’ reintegration. He said measures had already been put in place to assist them during the process.
The returnees expressed gratitude to the Government of Ghana for prioritising their safety and welfare and for facilitating their safe evacuation from South Africa. They also appreciated the support provided to them throughout the evacuation process.
