The Chief Executive Officer of the GhanaGhana National Gas Company , Judith Adjobah Blay, has urged African governments, policymakers and investors to increase investment in gas infrastructure to harness the continent’s substantial natural gas resources and promote sustainable economic growth.

Ms Blay made the call at Africa Oil Week (AOW) 2026, where she served as a panellist during a discussiondiscussion on “Building the Backbone: Midstream Gas Infrastructure as the Link Between Supply and Demand.”

The session examined the importance of midstream infrastructure in linking gas production to markets, industries and power generation, while improving the efficiency and resilience of Africa’s energy sector.

Ms Blay emphasised that Africa’s growing gas resources would have limited impact without the infrastructure needed to process, transport, store and distribute the resource efficiently.

She called for stronger collaboration between African governments, national oil and gas companies, private-sector investors and development institutions to mobilise the funding needed to expand gas infrastructure across the continent.

According to her, developing a reliable midstream network is essential to closing the gap between gas supply and demand and ensuring that natural gas can effectively support economic and industrial activities.

For Ghana, the issue is particularly important as the country continues to rely on natural gas as a key part of its energy security, industrialisation and broader economic development strategy.

Ms Blay’s participation at AOW 2026 also offered an opportunity to highlight Ghana’s experience in the midstream gas sector and advocate for increased regional cooperation and investment.

“Africa has the gas resources. The next frontier is building the infrastructure that connects those resources to the people, industries and economies that need them,” Ms Blay said.

Her remarks add to growing calls for strategic investment in gas infrastructure as Africa seeks to strengthen energy security, expand industrial capacity and create sustainable economic opportunities.
