The Ministry of Education has called for increased investment in digital infrastructure across schools and tertiary institutions, stating that technology remains essential to improving teaching, learning, and research nationwide. The appeal was made during a national e-learning conference attended by educators, policymakers, and technology experts.
Government has renewed calls for stronger investment in digital education infrastructure as stakeholders gathered for the National e-Learning Conference to discuss the future of education in Ghana.
Education officials emphasized that expanding internet connectivity, digital classrooms, and online learning platforms will improve educational quality while preparing students for an increasingly technology-driven global economy.
Addressing participants, the Deputy Minister for Education stated that digital transformation has become essential for improving access to quality education, particularly in underserved communities.He noted that while many schools have adopted digital learning tools, disparities remain between urban and rural institutions due to limited internet access, inadequate computer laboratories, and insufficient teacher training.
Participants at the conference highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between government, telecommunications companies, universities, and development partners to bridge Ghana’s digital divide.Education experts argued that integrating technology into classrooms requires more than providing computers. They stressed the importance of continuous teacher training, curriculum development, cybersecurity awareness, and reliable electricity supply.
Representatives from several universities showcased innovations including virtual laboratories, artificial intelligence learning systems, digital assessment platforms, and cloud-based educational resources designed to improve learning outcomes.Students attending the conference welcomed government efforts but appealed for affordable internet access and increased availability of digital devices to support online learning.
Technology companies participating in the event pledged continued collaboration with educational institutions through software development, equipment donations, and digital skills training programmes.
Researchers also encouraged greater investment in local educational technology solutions capable of addressing Ghana’s unique learning challenges.Development partners reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ghana’s digital education agenda through funding, technical assistance, and capacity-building initiatives.The Ministry of Education indicated that recommendations from the conference will inform future policy decisions aimed at strengthening digital learning nationwide and ensuring that Ghana’s education system remains competitive in the evolving global knowledge economy.
