Two people have died and seven others sustained injuries following a Mankessim–Accra Highway crash at Abor Junction in the Central Region.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 6, 2026, when a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 8911-25 crashed under circumstances yet to be determined.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a distress call was received at the Mankessim Fire Station at about 1:44 a.m., prompting a rescue team to respond to the scene alongside personnel from the National Ambulance Service.
The rescue team arrived at approximately 2:01 a.m. and found nine victims at the crash site. Two females and five males had sustained varying degrees of injuries, while one male and one female were pronounced dead.
Emergency responders provided first aid to the injured before transporting them to health facilities for treatment.
Three of the injured victims were taken to the Mercy Women Catholic Hospital in Mankessim, while the bodies of the two deceased were conveyed to the Saltpond Government Hospital mortuary.
The cause of the Mankessim–Accra Highway crash is yet to be established. However, the driver of the Toyota Voxy reportedly escaped unhurt.
After the rescue operation, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service cleared debris from the road to ensure the highway remained safe for other motorists.
