The University of Ghana has announced plans to make artificial intelligence and digital skills a core part of student training, reinforcing its commitment to preparing graduates for an increasingly technology-driven global economy.
The initiative forms part of the University’s broader academic strategy to equip students with practical knowledge and emerging technological skills that will enable them to compete in a rapidly changing job market. University authorities say artificial intelligence is no longer an optional field of study but an essential tool that cuts across disciplines and industries.
The University explained that students will be encouraged to develop competencies in artificial intelligence, digital innovation and problem-solving alongside their academic programmes, ensuring they graduate with skills that meet the demands of modern employers.
Education and technology experts have welcomed the move, describing it as a timely response to the growing influence of artificial intelligence in higher education and the workplace. They say integrating AI into university training will better prepare graduates for careers in business, healthcare, engineering, finance, agriculture and other sectors where digital technologies are transforming operations.
The University also emphasised the importance of using artificial intelligence responsibly, noting that innovation must be accompanied by ethical standards, critical thinking and academic integrity to ensure students use the technology effectively and responsibly.
