Tamale Teaching Hospital: (TTH) Doctors Call Off Strike After Successful Negotiations

Doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) have officially called off their strike action after reaching an agreement with hospital management and key stakeholders.

The decision to resume full services was announced today following a series of intensive negotiations aimed at addressing the concerns that had sparked the industrial action.

Background to the Strike

The doctors at TTH embarked on a strike earlier this month to protest the dismissal of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer and what they described as the poor treatment of medical staff. They cited the lack of due process, threats to staff welfare, and unsafe working conditions as major grievances.

The strike led to the disruption of medical services, with only emergency cases being attended to during the period.

Resolution and Return to Work

After several meetings involving the hospital board, the Ministry of Health, and representatives of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), a compromise was reached.

Among the key outcomes were:

• A review of the circumstances surrounding the CEO’s dismissal.
• Assurances of enhanced staff protection and respect for due process.
• Renewed commitments to address long-standing operational challenges at the hospital.

Doctors are expected to fully return to work by Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
