In a Facebook post, the minister wrote:

“I am delighted to announce that the first 100 Ghanaians to apply for the new chip-embedded passports on Monday, 28th April, 2025, will receive their chip-embedded passports the same day.
I will personally hand them over to the first 100 fellow citizens at the Passport Application Centre in Ridge, Accra.”

Enhanced Security Features

Launched in December 2024, the chip-embedded passport incorporates advanced biometric features designed to boost travel security and streamline application procedures.

The new travel document includes a secure microprocessor holding the holder’s biometric and photo data, alongside unique anti-fraud technologies.

Reflecting Ghana’s Cultural Heritage

Beyond security, the new passport design celebrates Ghana’s identity by featuring Adinkra symbols such as “Fawohodie” (Freedom and Independence) and “Funtunfunefu Denkyemfunefu” (Democracy and Cooperation).

These cultural elements reinforce Ghana’s rich heritage while giving the passport a distinct visual identity.

Convenient Reforms and Modernization

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that for applicants unable to collect their passports in person, delivery will be arranged to their preferred addresses.

Key reform initiatives accompanying the rollout throughout 2025 include:

  • 24/7 passport processing operations
  • Courier delivery services to home or office addresses
  • Electronic application tracking
  • 30% reduction in passport processing fees

These reforms aim to modernize the entire system, eliminate intermediaries, and offer a more transparent and user-centric application experience.

The passport overhaul is a major part of the government’s agenda to enhance service delivery and facilitate smoother travel for Ghanaians.
