Zico Alumni Launch Gh51 Million Endowment as School Begins Major Transformation

Alumni of Zico Senior High School have launched a Gh51 million endowment fund to support a major transformation initiative for their alma mater. The fund was unveiled during a colourful ceremony attended by past students, current leadership of the school, parents, government officials and education stakeholders.

The endowment is targeted at enhancing infrastructure, improving academic programmes, and providing scholarships and learning resources for students. Alumni say that the initiative reflects their commitment to giving back to the school that shaped their lives, while also creating opportunities for future generations. Many graduates shared stories of how the school influenced their success, and they urged current students to see the endowment as a source of inspiration.

School leaders have outlined some of the key areas that will benefit from the funding. These include renovation of classroom blocks, enhancement of laboratory facilities, expansion of library resources and modernisation of the school’s science and technology departments. The transformation plan also includes teacher training, student mentorship programmes and increased support for sports and extracurricular activities.

An important aspect of the initiative is the establishment of a scholarship scheme for high performing but financially needy students. The alumni association stated that every year students will be selected to receive full or partial scholarships based on academic merit and financial need. The scholarships are expected to reduce barriers to education for many brilliant students who would otherwise struggle to continue schooling.

Speaking at the launch, alumni leaders emphasised that quality education should be accessible to all students regardless of background. They explained that the endowment fund will be professionally managed to ensure sustainable impact over the long term. The trustees include experienced professionals from diverse sectors who pledged accountability and transparency in handling the funds.

Educators and parents have welcomed the development, describing it as a bold step toward elevating the school’s status as a centre of excellence. They hope that the model can be replicated by other schools seeking to strengthen their resources through alumni engagement.

The initiative also underscores the critical role of community involvement in education development. By bringing together former students, education officials and community leaders, Zico Senior High School’s transformation plan has set a positive example of collective effort for improved learning outcomes.

As the school begins the implementation phase, stakeholders are optimistic that the combined efforts will significantly enhance student experience, prepare learners for global opportunities and contribute positively to national education goals.
