Two Women Arrested with 1,650 Slabs of Indian Hemp in Eastern North Region

According to a police statement, the women were apprehended while traveling in a commercial vehicle. Officers discovered the tightly packed narcotic substances concealed in sacks during a routine but targeted search.

“Acting on credible intelligence, our team intercepted the vehicle and uncovered the contraband hidden within. The suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations,” the police stated.

Suspects Linked to Oti Region Smuggling Route

Preliminary information suggests the Indian hemp may have originated from a cultivation zone within the Oti Region, with the Eastern North Region being used as a transit hub to other parts of the country.

Authorities have since launched further investigations aimed at uncovering the larger network behind the trafficking scheme. The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.

The Eastern North Regional Police Command is urging members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting efforts to combat drug-related crimes through timely information sharing.
