Akufo-Addo Govt approved galamsey that ravaged forests, water bodies – Gbande

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has launched a blistering attack on the Akufo-Addo administration, accusing it of deliberately enabling the widespread destruction of Ghana’s forest reserves and water bodies.

Mining Leases and Regulatory Failure Blamed
According to Gbande, the government’s reckless issuance of mining leases and failure to enforce regulations have directly led to the environmental degradation currently plaguing the country.
“Gov’t Has Turned a Blind Eye”
Gbande asserted that the Akufo-Addo government has turned a blind eye to the environmental crisis, prioritizing political and financial gains over the health and safety of the nation.

He charged that these actions have empowered illegal miners and unscrupulous actors to destroy critical ecosystems that sustain millions of Ghanaians.
“Our water bodies are polluted. Our forest reserves are vanishing, and the people entrusted with protecting them are the same ones enabling their destruction,” he fumed.

NDC Calls for Urgent Action
The NDC Deputy Chief warned that if urgent steps are not taken to reverse the trend, Ghana risks facing severe water shortages and a collapse of its natural heritage.
He vowed that an NDC government would restore accountability in the mining sector and enforce laws to protect the environment.
