The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the introduction of pre-screening checks by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) at the entrance of the Departure Hall at the Accra International Airport.

Under the new security arrangement, passengers departing from the airport will have their luggage screened before they are allowed into the Departure Hall and proceed to check-in.

According to a public notice issued by GACL on October 2, the additional screening will be carried out using scanning machines and sniffer dogs as part of measures to strengthen security at the airport.

GACL explained that such pre-screening procedures are already in place at several international airports around the world.

In view of the additional checks, passengers have been advised to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled flight time.

The early arrival is expected to give travellers sufficient time to complete luggage screening, check-in and other required boarding procedures without unnecessary pressure.

GACL also reminded the public that access to the Departure Hall is restricted to passengers who are travelling. Non-travelling individuals will therefore not be allowed into the hall.

The company expressed appreciation to passengers and other airport users for their cooperation as it works with security agencies to enhance airport security and maintain safe, secure and efficient operations.
