The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has donated 49,450 exercise books to deprived schools in the Ashanti Region in a move aimed at improving access to essential learning materials and supporting quality basic education.

The exercise books were presented to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council for distribution across all 43 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region. Under the initiative, each assembly is expected to receive 1,150 exercise books for schools within its jurisdiction.

Speaking at the presentation, Ashanti Regional Representative of NALAG and Presiding Member of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, Nana Yaw Wiredu, said the donation forms part of the Association’s commitment to supporting education in underserved communities. He explained that the initiative was adopted as a legacy project after members recognised the important role education plays in national development and effective local governance.

The exercise book distribution is expected to ease the burden on many parents and guardians while providing pupils with the learning materials they need to actively participate in classroom activities.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the intervention, noting that access to basic learning materials remains a challenge for many schools in deprived communities. They believe such partnerships can complement government efforts to improve educational outcomes across the country.

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council expressed appreciation to NALAG for the support and pledged to ensure that the exercise books are distributed fairly to the intended beneficiary schools.

The donation forms part of a broader nationwide initiative by NALAG to promote educational development and improve learning conditions for pupils in communities where access to basic school supplies remains limited.
