A 70-year-old woman, Maame Afua Akyere, who was reported missing after leaving home for church, has been found dead on a cocoa farm at Akyem Koforidua Akura in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern Region.

The deceased reportedly left home on Sunday, July 26, to attend church but failed to return by 6:00 p.m., raising concerns among her family because she usually returned home around midday.

Her relatives and some residents launched a search in nearby farms and bushes on Sunday evening, but their efforts proved unsuccessful. Her body was eventually discovered beneath a tree on a cocoa farm on Monday morning.

The discovery caused shock and grief among residents, who gathered at the scene after news of the incident spread. Blood was reportedly seen oozing from the woman’s eyes, while the family alleged that her body appeared to have been tampered with.

The family suspects that some parts of the deceased’s body may have been removed by her attackers, although the allegation has not yet been confirmed by police investigators or health officials.

“We suspect parts of her body were cut off and taken away by her attackers. We demand justice and urge the police to arrest those behind this heinous crime,” a family member said.

Police officers later visited the scene and began investigations after receiving a report. The area was examined, after which the body was conveyed to the morgue for preservation and an autopsy to assist with the investigation.
