The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has received a donation of GH¢20,000 from Retro Vibes Day Club to support breast cancer awareness, screening and early detection activities across the region.

The contribution, presented on behalf of the club’s patrons and supporters, is expected to strengthen the Directorate’s efforts to improve access to breast health education and encourage more people to seek timely medical attention.

The donation was announced in October, which is observed globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Editorial Ethics & Independence

The annual campaign provides an opportunity for health institutions, civil society organisations and private sector groups to promote public understanding of breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

According to a report, the donation is intended to support community outreach activities and provide resources needed by health teams to reach more people with screening services.

The initiative also highlights the role community-based organisations can play in supporting public healthcare programmes beyond their regular activities.

Health Directorate Welcomes Support for Breast Cancer Outreach

Officials of the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate have welcomed the contribution, describing it as timely support for ongoing efforts to improve breast cancer education and screening across the region.

Dr Robert Admesia, Greater Accra Regional Health Director, expressed appreciation to the organisers and explained that the funds would help address logistical needs associated with community outreach.

He indicated that resources such as fuel and other operational requirements were necessary for health teams to travel to communities and provide services to people who might otherwise struggle to access screening. Corrections Policy

Dr Admesia said the contribution would enable the Directorate to reach individuals who could have been missed without the additional support.

He also stressed the importance of early detection, noting that identifying breast cancer at an early stage can improve the chances of successful treatment.

In a separate account published by MyJoyOnline on October 29, Dr Louisa Mantey, Metro Director of Health Services, also commended Retro Vibes Day Club for supporting the region’s breast cancer campaign.

She described the contribution as an example of how community groups and private organisations can complement government efforts to address public health challenges.

Retro Vibes Day Club Explains Motivation Behind Donation

Retro Vibes Day Club, an entertainment community designed mainly for adults aged 30 and above, said the donation forms part of its commitment to combining social activities with initiatives that benefit the wider community.

The group brings people together through music, fashion, culture and entertainment. However, its organisers say they also want the platform to contribute to causes that affect people’s lives.

Mr Kofi Da-Silva, Production Manager of Retro Vibes Day Club, told the Ghana News Agency that the contribution was intended as an initial step towards building lasting partnerships with institutions working to improve community welfare.

He expressed the group’s willingness to continue supporting initiatives that address important social and national needs.

Meanwhile, Delanyo Kwashiga, popularly known as DJ Dela, who represented the organisers in the report, said giving back to society had become an important part of the club’s philosophy.

He explained that the GH¢20,000 was raised through contributions from patrons and supporters who wanted to support breast cancer advocacy and healthcare delivery. Editorial Standards

The organisers also indicated that they hoped the initiative would inspire other entertainment groups and private organisations to contribute to similar causes.

Screening and Education Form Part of the Initiative

Beyond the financial contribution, Retro Vibes Day Club has also partnered with health professionals to provide breast cancer education and screening services for patrons during its October activities.

The collaboration was designed to encourage participants to understand the importance of breast health, recognise unusual changes and seek professional medical assessment when necessary.

The Directorate has also been intensifying public education and screening campaigns to encourage people to take advantage of available services at health facilities.

Health officials have urged women not to wait until they experience symptoms before seeking information about breast screening.

They have also encouraged husbands, family members, religious leaders and traditional health practitioners to support women in accessing appropriate healthcare.

Although breast cancer occurs less frequently in men than in women, men can also develop the disease and should seek medical assessment when they notice unusual breast changes.

A lump does not automatically mean a person has cancer. However, unexplained changes, unusual swelling, nipple discharge or changes in the appearance of the breast should be assessed by a qualified health professional rather than ignored or treated through self-diagnosis.

Broader Support Needed to Strengthen Breast Cancer Care

The GH¢20,000 donation comes amid wider efforts in Ghana to improve breast cancer awareness, diagnosis and access to treatment.

In a separate development reported, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, donated GH¢20,000 to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Care, to support the fight against breast cancer and assist patients requiring medical care.

The support is particularly relevant because awareness campaigns must be accompanied by accessible screening, timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment and continued assistance for patients.

For the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, the latest contribution provides additional resources for outreach and public education.

Its impact will ultimately depend on how effectively the funds are deployed to reach communities and connect people to appropriate healthcare services.

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws attention to the importance of early detection, the Retro Vibes Day Club initiative serves as a reminder that improving public health requires cooperation between government institutions, healthcare professionals, businesses and ordinary citizens.
