Residents of the CMB Workshop area in Koforidua in the Eastern Region have called for a thorough investigation into allegations that women were abducted and physically abused at a gated residential facility reportedly occupied by 18 African nationals engaged in network marketing.

The concerns emerged after residents claimed they repeatedly heard unusual noises and cries believed to be coming from women inside the self-contained apartments, particularly during the evening hours.

According to the residents, the sounds raised suspicions that some women might be experiencing abuse within the premises. However, they said the gated nature of the property made it difficult for them to gain access and establish what was happening inside.

The residents subsequently reported the matter to the Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben North, Isaac Adongo, who is said to have informed the police.

Following the intervention, the police reportedly arrested the individuals suspected of being involved in the alleged incident.

However, the residents have expressed concern over claims that the suspects and the women were later returned to the same facility that evening, allegedly because there was insufficient space in police cells to accommodate the suspects.

The reported development has heightened fears among community members, who are questioning the safety of the women and calling for urgent measures to protect anyone who may have been subjected to abuse.

They are urging the relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the activities taking place at the facility, establish the facts surrounding the allegations and ensure that appropriate action is taken where necessary.

Meanwhile, the identities and nationalities of the individuals involved, as well as the circumstances surrounding the alleged abductions and abuse, remain unclear.

Residents have also indicated that the individuals at the facility could communicate in English or one of the local languages.
