Ahorlu Ferguson Kwabla has been elected chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ketu South Constituency of the Volta Region after securing 946 votes in the constituency executive elections held on Friday, October 23, 2026. Editorial Ethics & Independence

Ferguson emerged victorious in a four candidate contest, defeating Dzila Bright, who obtained 525 votes. Kelie Elolo White placed third with 497 votes, while Amedorme Sylvanus Yao finished fourth with 433 votes, according to results reported by Citi Newsroom.

The outcome gives Ferguson the mandate to lead the NDC’s constituency organisation as the governing party continues its internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.

His election comes at a time when the party is renewing its leadership structures nationwide to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and improve coordination between local executives and the national leadership.

The chairmanship contest was one of the closely watched races in Ketu South, where delegates had to choose among four aspirants seeking to lead the party at the constituency level.

Ferguson’s victory places him at the centre of efforts to organise members, coordinate political activities and maintain the party’s presence across communities in the constituency.

The constituency election was held a day ahead of the nationwide NDC constituency polls originally scheduled for October 24 and 25.

The change was approved by the party’s national leadership to avoid a clash with the final funeral rites of the late Torgbui Addo, the Paramount Chief of the Klikor Traditional Area.

Alongside the chairmanship result, delegates elected other executives to help manage the party’s local affairs.

Abelia Seth Kwasi won the vice-chairperson position with 1,075 votes, while Zigah Reginald Edem Kodzo secured the constituency secretary position with 1,524 votes.

The newly elected executives are expected to work together to oversee the party’s organisational activities, support branch-level structures and coordinate communication with members.

Their responsibilities will also include helping to resolve internal disagreements, encouraging participation and preparing the constituency for upcoming political campaigns.

At the grassroots level, constituency executives play a key role in translating the party’s national priorities into local activities. They help organise meetings, mobilise supporters, communicate policies and maintain relationships with communities. Newscard

Their effectiveness can influence how consistently the party engages its members and responds to concerns raised by voters.

Ferguson’s victory therefore marks more than a change in the constituency’s leadership. It begins a new period in which delegates and party members will expect the incoming administration to demonstrate effective leadership, transparency and cooperation across the various branches.

The result also highlights the competitive nature of internal party elections. Although aspirants compete for individual positions, the long-term success of the party depends on their ability to work together after voting concludes.

Supporters of unsuccessful candidates remain part of the party’s grassroots network, making reconciliation and unity important priorities for the new leadership. Editorial Standards

Before the election, preparations had involved vetting candidates, arranging ballot positions and coordinating the participation of delegates.

The Ghana News Agency reported on October 22 that 74 aspirants were contesting different executive positions in Ketu South, with 2,963 delegates expected to participate. The election committee expressed confidence in its preparations for a free, fair and peaceful exercise.

The constituency polls form part of a wider internal process that will determine leadership at regional and national levels.

The NDC has scheduled regional executive elections for November 14 and 15, 2026, with its national executive elections expected to take place at a National Congress on December 19. The process is intended to renew the party’s structures ahead of the next general election.

For Ferguson, the immediate challenge will be to turn his electoral victory into effective organisation. This will require cooperation with the newly elected executives, engagement with branch members and the development of strategies to sustain participation across Ketu South.

The chairmanship result gives him a clear mandate from the delegates who voted, but expectations will now shift from campaigning to performance.

Party members will look to the new leadership to promote unity, strengthen local structures and prepare the constituency for the demands of the 2028 electoral cycle. Corrections Policy

As the NDC continues its nationwide reorganisation, the success of its constituency leadership will be measured not only by the conduct of the elections but also by how effectively the elected executives work together in the months ahead.
