Sixty-one Ghanaian nurses have been officially welcomed to Grenada following their arrival in the Caribbean country to support its healthcare delivery system.

The nurses were received at an official welcome ceremony on October 16, 2026, marking a new chapter in their professional careers and Ghana’s healthcare cooperation with the island nation.

The ceremony recognised their arrival and the role they are expected to play in strengthening healthcare services in Grenada through their skills, experience and professional expertise.

Their deployment follows a memorandum of understanding on health cooperation signed by Ghana and Grenada in October 2025 to facilitate the recruitment of Ghanaian nurses for employment in the Caribbean country.

The agreement came after discussions between President John Dramani Mahama and Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell on strengthening bilateral relations, including cooperation in the health sector.

Grenada had expressed interest in recruiting Ghanaian nurses and allied health professionals to help address staffing shortages in its healthcare system.

The partnership forms part of Ghana’s broader Labour Export Programme, which seeks to create international employment opportunities for skilled Ghanaians while helping partner countries meet their workforce needs.

The government has urged deployed professionals to demonstrate competence, discipline and professionalism to help sustain such opportunities for other Ghanaian workers seeking employment abroad.
