The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents and supporters to immediately suspend campaign activities ahead of the party’s parliamentary primaries.

In a statement issued on October 11 and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said it had received complaints that some prospective candidates had begun campaigning in various constituencies.

Aspirants

The NPP described the activities as a breach of its regulations and Code of Conduct, warning that they could create an uneven playing field and undermine party unity and discipline.

The directive prohibits aspirants and their supporters from mounting posters, billboards, banners and other branded materials. They are also barred from organising rallies, meeting polling station executives for campaign purposes or touring constituencies to solicit support.

Additionally, prospective candidates and their supporters are prohibited from distributing items or offering other inducements to delegates and party members. Paid media and social media advertisements promoting their candidacies are also banned.

The statement further warned party officers at the polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional and national levels, as well as members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), against endorsing parliamentary aspirants on social media or facilitating premature campaign activities.

The party cautioned that anyone who defies the directive could face disciplinary action, potentially affecting their eligibility to contest in the parliamentary primaries.

The NPP said it would announce the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary processes in due course.

It has tasked constituency and regional executives with ensuring strict compliance and urged all members to cooperate with the directive.
