A 22-year-old motor mechanic and Bolt driver, Emmanuel Kofi Mensah, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for robbing a beautician at Mantey Farms in Adenta.

Mensah pleaded guilty to robbery and was convicted on his own plea by the Adenta Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, told the court that Mensah attacked Yvonne Dzane Dzifa with a cutlass after she booked his Bolt vehicle from Madina Zongo Junction to Adenta on September 23, 2026.

According to the prosecution, Mensah drove past Dzifa’s intended destination at Adenta Barrier without stopping. He allegedly locked the vehicle’s doors and continued towards the Adenta-Dodowa road before eventually stopping at Mantey Farms.

The court heard that Mensah then demanded Dzifa’s handbag and other valuables. When she resisted, he allegedly drew a cutlass, pulled her out of the vehicle and repeatedly struck her in an attempt to force her to surrender the bag.

The prosecution said Mensah eventually cut Dzifa on her left wrist and little finger before taking her handbag.

The bag reportedly contained an iPhone 17 Pro Max valued at GH¢18,000, an iPhone 12 worth GH¢3,500, GH¢3,200 in cash and other personal belongings.

Mensah later contacted an accomplice, who arrived at the scene on a motorbike, the court was told.

Dzifa, however, managed to take a backpack from the front seat of the vehicle and escaped into a nearby bush. Mensah and the accomplice reportedly pursued her while armed with the cutlass but were unable to retrieve the backpack.

She eventually climbed over the fence wall of a nearby house, where she remained until the following morning. The landlord subsequently alerted the Police, who rescued her.

Police found a tablet and mini-laptop in the backpack, which were suspected to be stolen property.

Dzifa, who suffered a deep cutlass wound to her wrist and little finger as well as bruises on her body, was treated at Pantang Government Hospital and later discharged.

Mensah was arrested on September 24 after allegedly taking the stolen iPhone 17 Pro Max to an Apple shop at Madina Zongo Junction to sell it.

The shop owner reportedly recognised Dzifa’s picture on the phone and became suspicious that it had been stolen, leading to Mensah’s arrest.

Police also recovered the cutlass allegedly used in the attack after finding it concealed in Mensah’s shorts.

During investigations, Mensah admitted the offence in his caution statement and pleaded for forgiveness.

The prosecution further told the court that Mensah claimed the Bolt vehicle belonged to a Nigerian friend but was unable to provide the person’s identity.

Police efforts to identify and arrest the alleged accomplice were ongoing.
