The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced temporary road closures and traffic diversions around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference and Elections.
The traffic management measures will take effect on Saturday, October 3, 2026, and are aimed at ensuring public safety, controlling vehicular movement and facilitating the smooth organisation of the event.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 1, the Police Command said three routes leading to the stadium would be closed to vehicular traffic.

The affected routes are the stretch from Bridginia Traffic Lights to Carvery Methodist Church; Unity Oil Fuel Station to T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School; and Is My Kitchen Restaurant to Bridginia Traffic Lights.
The Command said alternative routes would be introduced to ease congestion and maintain the flow of traffic during the conference.
Commercial vehicles approaching from Amakom will continue towards Asokwa, while vehicles from Asafo will be diverted at Bridginia Traffic Lights towards either Asokwa or Amakom Traffic Lights.

Vehicles travelling from LLL towards T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School will continue to Amakom Traffic Lights.
Motorists travelling from Kumasi City Mall towards Afful Nkwanta Junction will be diverted through Bulldog Restaurant, while vehicles coming from Afful Nkwanta will proceed towards Kumasi City Mall.
Special parking arrangements
The Police Command said special parking arrangements had been agreed upon in consultation with the NPP Elections Committee.

Under the arrangements, only vehicles belonging to former Presidents and the NPP Presidential Candidate will be permitted to use the VVIP Car Park.
Members of Parliament, former MPs, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), as well as Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), will park at the Scoreboard Parking Area.
Regional delegates arriving by bus and National Party Executives will use the Heroes Park, while official police vehicles will be stationed at the Hockey Pitch.
The Police stressed that all delegates and vehicles attending the conference must be properly accredited.

According to the Command, access to designated areas and parking facilities will be restricted to accredited delegates and vehicles.
Motorists have also been directed to display their accreditation prominently and follow the instructions of police officers deployed to manage traffic around the venue.
The Command warned motorists against parking in unauthorised areas or attempting to breach designated roadblocks.
Personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) will be deployed at strategic locations to direct motorists and enforce the temporary traffic arrangements.

Towing trucks will also be available to remove vehicles that are wrongly parked or abandoned. Such vehicles will be sent to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Yard at the owners’ expense.
The Police Command urged motorists, delegates, party supporters and members of the public to plan their journeys ahead of time, use the designated alternative routes and avoid unauthorised parking around the stadium.
Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, said the Command would not allow unauthorised access, parking or obstruction along the designated routes.

He appealed to the public to cooperate with the police to ensure orderly traffic movement, public safety and the peaceful conduct of the NPP conference.
The Command also apologised for any inconvenience the temporary traffic measures may cause.
