The construction of a new 160-bed Savannah Regional Referral Hospital has moved closer to commencement following the formal handover of the project site to the contractor in Damongo.
The project is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery in the Savannah Region by expanding access to specialised medical services and reducing the need for residents to travel to other regions for advanced treatment.
The site was officially handed over to the contractor on Friday as part of government’s broader initiative to improve referral healthcare infrastructure across the Savannah, Oti and Western North regions.
Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the development in a Facebook post on Sunday, September 27, confirming that the Damongo project site had been formally handed over to the contractor.
Under the initiative, each of the three regions is expected to receive a new 160-bed regional referral hospital equipped to provide higher-level medical care.
The hospitals are expected to complement existing health facilities, ease pressure on referral centres and improve access to specialised treatment for patients who require advanced medical attention.
The handover of the Savannah project site now clears the way for construction work to begin on the long-awaited facility.
