Ghanaian musician Kofi Mole has opened up about the impact of fatherhood on his music career, saying his responsibilities as a parent led him to reduce his focus on music and spend more time with his son.
The rapper explained that after becoming a father, he deliberately stepped back from releasing music as he adjusted to his new responsibilities and took time to experience life outside his career.
Speaking on the On the Line podcast, Kofi Mole disclosed that his seven-year-old son became a major factor in his decision to slow down his musical activities.
“I have a son who is seven years old. Now I am a father, and I have to be present for my son’s life, so parenting has taken part of the time I fully dedicated to music. My work rate in music dropped because I wasn’t dropping new music. As a new father, I needed time to myself, and I was also travelling out of the country to explore new things. That’s basically why I haven’t been active.”
According to the musician, his absence from the music scene was not entirely due to a loss of interest in creating music, but rather a period of personal adjustment and exploration.
Kofi Mole also said he does not want external expectations from fans or the industry to determine the type of music he produces, stressing that doing so could compromise his creativity.
“I don’t force myself to make music based on people’s expectations. If you do that, you’ll lose your art. I just dey do what I have to do. I record songs I love, and my fans love them.”
Despite taking a break from releasing music, he acknowledged that consistency remains important for any artiste who wants to maintain a strong presence in the industry.
“In everything you’re doing, you have to be consistent. If you leave a space, there’s someone who will come and fill the space.”
Kofi Mole, however, believes his time away has not diminished his ability to create successful music. He said that with his son now older, he has returned to making music and is ready to reconnect with his audience.
“My boy is a big boy now, and I’m back to creating. I know people will criticise my relevance, but I’m the same machine that created all those hit songs.”
His comments suggest that his period away from the spotlight was shaped by a combination of fatherhood, personal growth and a desire to explore experiences beyond music.
Now that he has resumed creating, Kofi Mole appears focused on continuing his musical journey while remaining true to his artistic identity.
