Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC is aiming to increase its share of Ghana’s mortgage market to between 40 and 42 per cent by the close of 2026.

The bank’s Managing Director, Dr Benjamin Dzoboku, said the institution currently accounts for more than 38 per cent of the mortgage market and intends to build on that position by placing mortgage financing at the heart of its growth strategy.

He made the disclosure during an interview on Joy FM’s Personality Profile with Lexis Bill on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Dr Dzoboku explained that the renewed focus on mortgages was partly driven by the bank’s history, noting that Republic Bank was originally established as a mortgage finance institution before expanding into commercial banking.

He said returning to that core area was one of his priorities after assuming leadership of the bank.

“That is our dream, and that is the reason why the bank was set up initially as a mortgage finance, and then we evolved to become a commercial bank. So, when I took over, I decided that ‘let’s go back to the reason why the company was set up for’. We have over 38% market share.

“And it is my expectation that by the end of the year we should be about 40 to 42,” he said.

The bank’s renewed mortgage strategy includes efforts to simplify the application process, improve access to financing and introduce products tailored to different categories of prospective homeowners and property investors.

In January 2026, Republic Bank announced plans to revamp its mortgage operations, with digital verification, faster processing and specialised advisory services forming part of the changes.

The bank has also been involved in the National Mortgage Scheme, which seeks to improve access to relatively affordable housing finance.

In August 2026, the National Homeownership Fund announced the resumption of lending under the scheme at an interest rate of 8.4 per cent following a review conducted in collaboration with Republic Bank.

Mortgage options

Republic Bank offers a range of mortgage products covering different housing and property needs.

These include home purchase, home equity, home completion, home improvement, buy-build-and-own, pension-backed, executive, switch and land mortgages.

The bank’s published rates show an individual cedi mortgage rate of 18 per cent per annum fixed, while the published rate for US dollar mortgages stands at 11.5 per cent per annum.

Customers taking cedi-denominated mortgages can access repayment periods of up to 20 years, while US dollar mortgages have a maximum tenure of 15 years.

Republic Bank has also introduced pension-backed mortgage financing, allowing eligible pension contributors to use qualifying retirement savings to support homeownership.

The product builds on the bank’s previous partnership with corporate trustee Petra Trust.

Habitat Fair supports housing finance drive

The bank’s mortgage campaign is also being supported by the Republic Bank JoyNews Habitat Fair, organised in partnership with Multimedia Group.

The platform brings together prospective homeowners, property developers, financial institutions and other businesses within the housing sector.

The next fair is scheduled for September 25 to 27, 2026, at Junction Mall in Nungua.

Over the three days, prospective homeowners and property investors will have the opportunity to interact with developers, financial institutions and other service providers and explore available housing, investment and financing options.

The initiative is also being expanded to other parts of the country. Republic Bank and Multimedia Group announced in August that the Habitat Fair would be extended to Kumasi and Ho.

For Republic Bank, the renewed emphasis on mortgage financing marks a return to one of the areas on which the institution was originally built.

Dr Dzoboku’s strategy places mortgage banking at the centre of the bank’s efforts to grow its market presence while increasing access to housing finance in Ghana.
