The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 14-year-old boy, his mother and other two suspects said to be members of an armed robbery gang suspected of operating on the Accra-Kumasi highway.

The Police in the operation said they have discovered the possible identity of an operational officer in the persons of the 14-year-oldboy who used to be the observation person of the gang.
The Inspector General of Police in the person of Christian Tetteh Yohuno made the information known during a press briefing at the Headquarters of the service to make known the arrests.
Mr Yohuno announced the arrest of Obotan, an alleged armed robbery gang leader who operates on the stretch as together with his biological mother who used to harbor the weapon during robbery.
He said the weapon believed to have been used in the robbery is with the biological mother of Obotan.
Also arrested is Issaka Napson who the Police say is the facilitator of guns to the alleged armed robbbery group.
Majeed Huzeifai’s also arrested as part of the investigation.
During the exercise, Polic investigators also carried out searches at the residences of these suspects.
Among those searched include the residence of the maternal mother of Obotan as where weapon said to have been the gun used to rob was found.
A type of ADLER pumpsaction gun serial number 23GN-2302 used for the robbery on Enyireisi-Sekyere section. Double-barrel gun, single-barreled guns, locally manufactured pistol and two pieces of AA cartridges all found at Obotan’s mothers.
Additionally, three cutlasses, two pairs of handcuffs, a jack knife with number 023-1-240382, a can of pepper spray and pinch bar with number 20020/2Awere seized from Majeed’s residence.
The officers also recovered ammunition pouch, tactical vest and an unregistered Royal 125 motorcycle. Corrections Policy
The firearms and the recovered items were exhibited at the press briefing.
All the adult suspects plus the young ones have been arrested and assisting police in their investigation.
Nevertheless, Police are however said to be hunting for an alleged gang member nicknamed Tanko, after investigations indicate that the young man was also part of the Operation.
Police said Tanko’s where abouts as yet unknown as the team goes on a manhunt for him to be brought for further questioning.
It is yet to be revealed if the child had any prior experience with the police or if this was an eye opener for him to take a U turn and become a useful member of the society.
Under the Child Justice System of Ghana the child is to be treated as victim unless proven otherwise by the state.
Meanwhile, this operation is the latest in the series of similar operations by the Police Service targeted at robberies along major highways in Ghana.
It forms part of efforts by thePolice to ensure the safety of road users on these important traffic arteries that links various parts of the country and facilitates trade and travel.
Drivers of private, commercial vehicles and even other stakeholders like traders who depend on these roads for the transport of goods to various market centers in the country have been clamoring for intensified security. Newscard
The recent arrest follows a reported highway robbery on August 18, 2026, and is indicative of sustained Police action in response to such criminal acts.
The recovery of lethal and less lethal weapons and other robbery related tools will also aid Police investigatorsin substantiating the roles of the suspects in the robberies.
For the now all arrested suspects are in Police custody assistingin investigations.
Police have said they will only be bringing the suspects to court when all evidence have been gathered.
