Ghanaian boxing star Isaac “The Royal Storm” Dogboe has announced his retirement from professional boxing, bringing an end to a distinguished career that saw him rise to become one of the country’s most accomplished fighters.
Dogboe bows out with a professional record of 24 victories and four defeats, including 16 wins by knockout. During his career, he competed at the highest level and proudly represented Ghana on the international boxing stage.
The biggest moment of his career came in 2018 when he defeated Jessie Magdaleno to capture the WBO super-bantamweight world title. At 23, Dogboe became Ghana’s youngest world boxing champion, earning a place among the nation’s boxing greats.
Dogboe produced a determined performance against Magdaleno, stopping the American in the 11th round to claim the championship. He followed that success with a first-round knockout victory over Japan’s Hidenori Otake in his first title defence.
His reign was later brought to an end by Mexican boxer Emanuel Navarrete. Dogboe also lost the rematch, but the setbacks did not stop him from rebuilding his career.
He subsequently moved up to the featherweight division, where he secured important victories over experienced opponents such as Chris Avalos, Adam Lopez and Christopher Diaz.
Dogboe also competed in major world-title fights and eliminators, including his WBO featherweight championship challenge against Cuban star Robeisy Ramirez and a WBC final eliminator against Nick Ball.
Known for his explosive punching power, aggressive style and willingness to engage in tough battles, Dogboe became one of Ghana’s most recognisable boxers. His famous battle cry, “Neho!”, meaning “to uproot”, became a defining part of his identity in the ring.
Beyond his achievements as a professional boxer, Dogboe’s career has served as an inspiration to young Ghanaian fighters seeking to make their mark in the sport.
Announcing his retirement, the former world champion expressed appreciation to God, his fans and everyone who supported him throughout his journey.

Dogboe’s retirement closes a remarkable chapter that included a world championship, memorable victories and battles against some of the finest fighters of his era.
From making history as Ghana’s youngest world champion to overcoming setbacks and continuing to compete at the highest level, Dogboe leaves behind a legacy built on determination, courage and resilience.
Although his professional career has come to an end, his achievements and contribution to Ghanaian boxing will remain part of the country’s rich boxing history.
The Royal Storm may have left the ring, but his legacy will continue to inspire the next generation. “Neho!”
