The Appointments Committee of Parliament is set to vet Klottey-Korle MP Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, today, Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The two are among a number of nominees put forward by President John Dramani Mahama for parliamentary consideration and approval.

The vetting timetable was presented to Parliament on Monday, August 24, by Mahama Ayariga in his role as Chairman of the Business Committee. The schedule followed a request by the committee for a waiver of the Standing Orders requirement on the publication of presidential nominations to allow the vetting process to begin without further delay.

Following the exercise, the Appointments Committee is expected to submit its reports to the full House for consideration and approval in accordance with parliamentary procedures.

Three nominees for positions on the Supreme Court will also appear before the committee. They are Justice Sophia Bernasko-Essah, a Justice of the Court of Appeal; Justice Edward Amoako Asante, also a Court of Appeal Justice and former President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice; and Anthony Forson Jnr, a private legal practitioner and former President of the Ghana Bar Association.

The vetting of the three judicial nominees is expected to examine their professional backgrounds, judicial experience, understanding of the law, knowledge of constitutional principles and suitability for appointment to Ghana’s highest court.

The exercise is part of Parliament’s constitutional mandate to scrutinise and approve certain presidential appointments. The Appointments Committee plays a key role in assessing nominees before submitting its recommendations to the House for a final decision.

The outcome of the vetting will determine whether the nominees receive Parliament’s approval to take up their respective positions.
