National Sports Authority (NSA) Board Chairman Prof. Fred Awaah has described the condition of the Accra Sports Stadium as bad warning that the place could be very dangerous if the problems with the building are not quickly fixed.
Prof. Awaah said this after checking the stadium on Wednesday, August 26 with people from the National Sports Authority members of the Ghana Sports Fund and government officers.
The check was done to see how the country’s important sports place is doing. It has been used for big local and international sports events over the years.
According to Prof. Awaah parts of the stadium are in such a state that they need quick action. He is worried that the building might fall down if the problems are not fixed.
“That is a death trap. You never know when the whole place might fall with a lot of people around and we could have another big problem. If we had our way we would have taken down the building and started with a new one right away ” he told InsightGhana Sports.
His words show that more people are worried about the safety of a place that always has many people watching football games, concerts and other events.
The Accra Sports Stadium has had upgrades and changes over the years. It was. Made better in 2007 as part of Ghana getting ready to host the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
Then there was another change in 2018 before Ghana hosted the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
