Ghana deputy captain Thomas Partey has officially joined Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab, bringing his time in Spain to an end and beginning a new chapter in his club career.
The experienced midfielder arrived in Riyadh early Monday morning to complete the final formalities of his move to the Saudi Arabian club.

Thomas Partey joins Al Shabab as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Spanish side Villarreal, where he spent the 2025/26 season.
The move marks another major step in the career of the 33-year-old, who has played in some of Europe’s biggest leagues.
Partey rose to prominence at Atletico Madrid before making a high-profile move to Arsenal. During his time with the North London club, he became an important part of the midfield and featured prominently in the Premier League.

He made 130 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions, scoring nine goals. His physical strength, passing ability, tactical intelligence and experience made him a key figure in the team during his spell in England.
After leaving Arsenal in 2025, Thomas Partey joined Villarreal on a free transfer. He made 25 appearances across all competitions during his only season with the Spanish club.
His move to Al Shabab gives the Ghana international an opportunity to continue his career in the Saudi Pro League, which has attracted a growing number of established international players in recent years.
Partey’s experience is expected to strengthen the Al Shabab midfield as the club looks to compete at the highest level of Saudi football.
At international level, Thomas Partey remains an important figure for the Black Stars. He recently represented Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, making three appearances as the team advanced to the Round of 32.
His continued club football could also be significant for Ghana as the Black Stars prepare for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, scheduled to begin in September.
Ghana will be looking to return to the tournament after missing the previous edition, with Partey’s leadership and experience expected to remain valuable to the national team.
As Thomas Partey begins life in Saudi Arabia, the midfielder will be hoping to maintain his fitness and form while continuing to play an influential role for both Al Shabab and the Black Stars.
