The KNUST Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christian Agyare, has unveiled an ambitious four-year strategic agenda aimed at strengthening the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s position as a globally recognized institution of higher learning.
Speaking during his induction ceremony on Saturday, August 1, 2026, Professor Agyare said his administration would focus on advancing research, innovation, quality teaching, and institutional transformation to consolidate KNUST’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading universities.
The ceremony brought together Chancellor Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, representatives of President John Dramani Mahama, government officials, members of the university community, alumni, and traditional leaders, all of whom witnessed the official installation of the new KNUST Vice-Chancellor.
Addressing guests, Professor Agyare shared his vision for the university over the next four years, emphasizing collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship as key drivers of University’s continued growth.
He said his administration would work closely with students, academic staff, alumni, and industry partners to strengthen the university’s contribution to Ghana’s industrial and socio-economic development while expanding its international influence.
“My vision is to deepen KNUST’s status as a globally recognized centre of excellence for students, staff and alumni to collaborate in the spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship and inventiveness to support the industrial and socioeconomic development of Ghana and beyond,” he stated.
Professor Agyare explained that his leadership would build on the university’s existing achievements while preparing to respond to emerging global opportunities and challenges in higher education.
The KNUST Vice-Chancellor said the university’s long-term direction would be anchored on excellence in research, innovation, teaching, and institutional stewardship.
He noted that adaptive governance, sustainable resource management, strategic partnerships, inclusivity, and technology-driven transformation would form the foundation of his administration’s agenda.
According to Professor Agyare, KNUST must continue to evolve into a forward-looking institution capable of harnessing its intellectual capital, strong alumni network, and partnerships to produce impactful research and transformative learning experiences.
“The collective goal is to position KNUST as a forward-looking institution of higher learning that harnesses its intellectual capital, alumni network, and strategic partnerships to drive impactful research, innovation, and transformative teaching,” he emphasized.
Professor Agyare announced that his administration would implement seven strategic thematic areas to guide the university’s development over the next four years.
These strategic priorities are expected to strengthen KNUST’s academic excellence, improve governance, encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, expand research collaborations, and enhance the overall student and staff experience.
He expressed confidence that these initiatives would reinforce the university’s standing as a leading centre of excellence while supporting national development and increasing its global competitiveness.
The KNUST Vice-Chancellor reiterated his commitment to leading an institution that embraces innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. He said the university would continue to leverage its academic expertise, alumni network, and strategic partnerships to deliver world-class education and research.
