Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has praised the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, for his outstanding humanitarian work and unwavering commitment to promoting peace, unity and national development in Ghana.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the residence of the Chief Imam in Accra, Mr. Bagbin described the respected Islamic leader as a symbol of selfless service whose contributions have positively impacted people from all religious and ethnic backgrounds. He said the Chief Imam’s leadership continues to inspire national cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
The Speaker commended Sheikh Sharubutu for consistently supporting vulnerable people through charitable initiatives, educational interventions and interfaith engagement. He noted that the Chief Imam’s efforts have strengthened social harmony and reinforced Ghana’s reputation as a peaceful and tolerant nation.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of religious leaders in promoting dialogue, resolving conflicts and encouraging citizens to embrace values such as respect, compassion and unity. Mr. Bagbin urged Ghanaians to emulate the Chief Imam’s example by placing national interest above personal or political differences.
Community development experts say faith leaders play a critical role in advancing social development by promoting peace, supporting education and providing humanitarian assistance to disadvantaged groups. They believe stronger collaboration between public institutions and religious organisations can help address many of the country’s social challenges.
Sheikh Sharubutu expressed appreciation for the Speaker’s visit and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace, religious tolerance and national development. He also encouraged Ghanaians to continue living in harmony and supporting one another regardless of faith or background.
