The United States has presented military equipment valued at $4 million to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to enhance the country’s defence and security capabilities.
The donation comprises protective gear, radar systems and training materials designed to improve the operational effectiveness of the Ghana Army and Ghana Navy, particularly in surveillance, communication and maritime security.
Announcing the support, the United States described the donation as a reflection of its longstanding security partnership with Ghana and a shared commitment to tackling emerging security challenges.
“The United States is proud to continue its longstanding security partnership with Ghana through the donation of $4 million in military equipment to the Ghana Armed Forces,” it stated.
According to the US, the equipment is expected to significantly strengthen the operational capacity of both the Ghana Army and the Ghana Navy.
“The equipment—including protective gear, radar systems and training materials—will support the Ghana Army and Ghana Navy in strengthening surveillance, communication, and operational capabilities,” the statement said.
The US also noted that the donation underscores the strong defence cooperation between the two countries and their joint efforts to promote peace and security across the region.
“This donation reflects our shared commitment to regional stability, maritime security, and addressing transnational threats,” it added.
The assistance forms part of ongoing defence collaboration between Ghana and the United States aimed at improving the readiness and effectiveness of the Ghana Armed Forces in responding to evolving security threats across the sub-region.
