The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced the integration of schools, churches and mosques into Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) zones as part of efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare across the country. The initiative falls under the government’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme.

Speaking on the programme, Director-General of the GHS, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, explained that the institutions will serve as centres for monthly health education activities. The programme is expected to improve public awareness on disease prevention, healthy living and early healthcare seeking behaviour.

Under the initiative, health workers will also conduct regular household visits, community outreach programmes and vaccination campaigns. Health authorities say the approach will bring quality healthcare services closer to communities while reducing the burden on health facilities.
