Mahama Pledges 70% World Market Price for Cocoa Farmers in Next Season

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a major boost for Ghanaian cocoa farmers, pledging that they will receive 70% of the world market price for their produce in the upcoming cocoa season. The assurance was given during his visit to Juaboso in the Western North Region, as part of his ongoing campaign tour.

Mahama described the initiative as a deliberate effort to restore fairness and dignity to Ghana’s cocoa farmers who, for years, have been shortchanged by unstable prices and rising input costs. “Cocoa farmers deserve better. Under the next NDC government, they will receive at least 70 percent of the world market price—guaranteed,” he stated to a cheering crowd.

In addition to better pricing, President John Dramani Mahama also promised to rehabilitate feeder roads in cocoa-growing communities, improve access to high-yielding seedlings, and create employment avenues for the youth in agriculture and agro-processing.

These policy directions form part of Mahama’s broader rural development plan, aiming to enhance productivity, ease transportation challenges, and attract more young people into cocoa farming. He emphasised that cocoa remains the backbone of Ghana’s economy and deserves better governance attention and investment.
