Why Minister Akandoh Named His Son After Late Omane Boamah

Ghana’s Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has revealed the touching reason behind naming his youngest son after the late Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, a former Minister of Defence and respected statesman.
Speaking during a remembrance event, Akandoh described Dr. Boamah as a mentor, friend, and father figure who played a critical role in shaping his political and personal journey.
“Dr. Omane Boamah was more than a colleague; he was a brother to me. His values, humility, and guidance continue to inspire my service to the people of Ghana. Naming my son after him is my way of keeping his legacy alive,” Akandoh stated.
Dr. Omane Boamah, who passed away earlier this year, was widely respected for his dedication to public service, particularly in the health and defence sectors. He also served as Minister for Communications under former President John Dramani Mahama.
Akandoh noted that the late minister’s mentorship was instrumental in his own rise within Ghanaian politics, emphasizing that the name would serve as a lifelong reminder of Dr. Boamah’s contribution to the nation.

The announcement has sparked warm reactions from political colleagues, civil society leaders, and Ghanaians who admired Dr. Boamah’s service to the country.
