Ghanaian swimmer Joselle Mensah has etched her name in history after setting two new national records in the 50-metre and 100-metre freestyle events at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships.

Competing among the world’s elite swimmers, Mensah clocked personal bests that shattered Ghana’s previous national records, signaling a major leap forward for Ghanaian swimming on the global stage.

A Milestone Moment for Ghanaian Aquatics

The 2025 championships, held in Singapore, saw the 18-year-old sensation blaze through the water with unmatched determination. Mensah recorded a time of 25.87 seconds in the 50m freestyle and 56.21 seconds in the 100m freestyle — both well under Ghana’s prior benchmarks.

Speaking after her record-breaking performance, Mensah expressed gratitude for the support she’s received.

“This is not just for me — it’s for every young swimmer in Ghana who believes we can compete with the best in the world,” she said.

Her coach also praised her discipline and mental toughness, calling her performances a “turning point” for swimming in the country.

Ghana’s Growing Presence in Global Swimming

Mensah’s feat adds momentum to Ghana’s slowly but steadily rising aquatics profile. With limited infrastructure and funding, her achievement is seen as a beacon of hope for grassroots sports development, especially for women in sports.

The Ghana Swimming Association has promised to leverage her performance to secure more funding, improve facilities, and expand participation in international competitions.
