Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has categorically denied reports suggesting that he endorsed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the claim as a gross misrepresentation of his words.

In a strongly worded protest letter dated May 2, 2025, and addressed to the producers of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Afenyo-Markin expressed his deep displeasure over a misleading headline published by the station. The headline read: “NDC is a sellable brand – Afenyo-Markin commends ruling party’s rebranding effort.”

“This is not only inaccurate but deliberately distorts the essence of my remarks,” Afenyo-Markin wrote in his letter.

Clarification of Remarks

The Minority Leader stressed that at no point during the interview did he endorse the NDC or commend the party’s branding efforts. According to him, his comments were focused on calling for political maturity and national unity, not party endorsements.

“My position remains clear: Ghana needs to rise above divisive politics and focus on national progress. Any attempt to twist this into an endorsement of the NDC is disingenuous,” he clarified.

Demands Retraction

Afenyo-Markin has demanded an immediate retraction and correction from the media outlet, emphasizing the need for responsible journalism, especially in these politically charged times.

“Such misreporting has the potential to cause unnecessary political tension and must be corrected without delay,” he asserted.

This development comes amid heightened political activity and sensitivities, as Ghana grapples with controversies surrounding the suspension of the Chief Justice and tensions between the ruling NDC and the opposition NPP.
