Ghanaians Welcome Return of Vice President Naana Opoku-Agyemang After Medical Leave

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang officially resumed her duties today, bringing relief to many Ghanaians who had grown concerned during her three-week medical absence.
Steady Recovery After Health Complication
Professor Opoku-Agyemang was admitted to the University of Ghana Hospital on March 28 following an unexpected health complication. She has been recovering steadily under close medical supervision.

Her absence from public view led to rumours about her condition and even false reports of her resignation. However, government sources have confirmed that the Vice President responded well to treatment, was discharged late last week, and has been recuperating privately in preparation for her return to office.
Gratitude for Nationwide Support
A senior aide at Jubilee House conveyed the Vice President’s gratitude for the outpouring of support she received:
“Her Excellency is deeply thankful for the prayers, messages, and encouragement that helped sustain her as she regained her strength. She looks forward to resuming her work for the good of our country.”

President Mahama Reassures the Nation
President John Dramani Mahama, who remained in regular contact with his deputy, reaffirmed her improving health during the recent launch of the Free Sanitary Pad Initiative — one of the signature programs championed by Professor Opoku-Agyemang.
“I’ve spoken with my Vice President, and I can assure you she is doing remarkably well,” the President said. “She is eager to continue the work we have begun together.”
Further Treatment Expected, But No Travel Announced
While doctors have recommended further specialist treatment abroad to ensure a full recovery, no travel plans have been announced yet. For now, the Vice President is expected to participate fully in Cabinet meetings and continue leading her national initiatives.

Boost to Government’s Agenda
As Ghana’s first female Vice President and a respected academic, Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s return is seen as a boost to the administration’s priorities, particularly in education reform, gender equity, and social welfare programs. Political analysts suggest her active presence will help inject momentum at a crucial time for the government.
Upcoming Public Engagement
Professor Opoku-Agyemang is scheduled to make her first public appearance later this week at a stakeholder engagement event in Accra. She is expected to outline her upcoming activities and reaffirm her commitment to serving the people of Ghana.
