“If Given Another Chance, We Will Get Many Things Right” — Bawumia’s Promise to Voters

Former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has openly admitted to governance shortcomings under the NPP-led administration and appealed to Ghanaians for forgiveness.
Speaking at a high-profile engagement with Ghanaians in the diaspora during an event in London, Dr. Bawumia reflected candidly on the NPP’s tenure in office, acknowledging that while there had been notable achievements, the party also fell short in key areas.
“We did not get everything right. We got quite a few things wrong,” he stated, in a rare and sincere admission. “I want to apologize on behalf of myself, the party, and the government.”

This public expression of regret comes in the wake of the NPP’s disappointing performance in the 2024 general elections, where the party lost power to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by John Dramani Mahama.
Despite the political setback, Dr. Bawumia struck a tone of humility and forward-thinking, stressing that the NPP is committed to learning from its past mistakes.

“I believe that if by the grace of God, we have another opportunity, we will get many things right,” he said, signaling the party’s resolve to rebuild public trust and improve governance should it return to power.
The remarks are being interpreted as part of a broader strategy to reconnect with disillusioned voters, especially those who once supported the NPP but felt let down by the government’s performance.

As the political landscape gradually shifts toward the next election cycle, Bawumia’s message appears aimed at resetting the narrative — one based on accountability, repentance, and renewed commitment.
