‘Some Have Rich Ideas and Nothing to Show for It’ – Ken Agyapong Fires Back at Bawumia

Presidential hopeful and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has delivered a stinging rebuke to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, questioning the tangible results of his widely promoted “rich ideas.”
In a strongly worded social media post, Ken Agyapong responded to recent comments made by Dr Bawumia at a closed-door meeting with former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who served under the NPP administration between 2017 and 2024.
“In this world, some have rich ideas and nothing to show for it. Others turn ideas into results and wealth. Ghana needs more doers, not dreamers in suits giving speeches,” Agyapong wrote.
His comments followed Dr Bawumia’s assertion that poor people, too, can lead Ghana, despite lacking the personal wealth of his political rival. Speaking on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Dr Bawumia remarked:
“I may not be a rich man compared to my opponent, but I have rich ideas. Poor people can also be presidents of Ghana.”
Over 200 ex-MMDCEs back Bawumia amid internal NPP tensions
Meanwhile, more than 200 former MMDCEs have thrown their weight behind Dr Bawumia in the lead-up to the NPP presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The group, under the name Forum of Former MMDCEs for Dr Bawumia, insisted the former Vice President remains the most credible candidate to lead the NPP back to power in 2028.

The convener of the group rejected reports that over 250 MMDCEs had endorsed Kennedy Agyapong, describing the claim as “false” and “misleading.”
“There was no official statement endorsing Mr Agyapong,” the group clarified in a formal rebuttal.
The brewing tension highlights the deepening divide within the NPP’s internal race, as the competition between Bawumia and Agyapong intensifies. With public endorsements, veiled jabs, and strategic campaigning in full force, the contest promises to be one of the most fiercely fought primaries in the party’s history.
