NPP still arrogant despite electoral defeat – Gyampo fires

Political science professor Yaw Gyampo has launched a scathing critique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the party of displaying dangerous arrogance in the wake of its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Reacting to the NPP’s ongoing “Thank You Tour,” Professor Gyampo argued that the initiative blatantly ignores the deep public resentment that led to the party’s electoral loss.

“When we complained openly, they arrogantly responded that regardless of their mayhem on us, they will still break the eight, as if we are all very dumb and stupid,” he wrote in a post sighted by MyNewsGH.
He further criticized the party’s insistence on their slogan “It is possible” during the election campaign, calling it the “height of NPP arrogance.”

NPP’s Dwindling Support
Gyampo cited findings from five post-election surveys, revealing that the NPP’s support among voters has plummeted to below 25% — a dangerous low for a party with national ambitions.
“This is not the time for leadership struggles in the party that has nearly collapsed and risks annihilation,”he warned.
The professor cautioned NPP leaders to abandon their premature celebrations and public criticism of President John Mahama’s new administration, urging them instead to embark on urgent internal reforms and reconnect with Ghanaians in humility.

“Rather than prematurely celebrating or criticizing the new Mahama administration, the NPP should focus on internal reforms and re-engaging Ghanaians with humility,” Gyampo advised.
Call for Reflection Over Rivalry
His remarks come at a time when the NPP is grappling with rising factionalism and leadership tussles, even as they attempt to recover from their electoral setback. Gyampo’s blunt warning adds to growing voices urging the party to prioritize introspection and genuine reforms over political posturing.
