King Paluta demands answers from TGMA board over ‘Makoma’ snub for most popular song

In a letter dated March 18, 2025, King Paluta’s management has expressed dissatisfaction over the exclusion of his hit song ‘Makoma’ from the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) nominations. Despite submitting the track for Most Popular Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year, the song did not receive any recognition.
“We humbly write to your honourable board to demand some explanations in connection with the snub of ‘Makoma’ by King Paluta — a song we duly submitted for consideration, which we believe remains Ghana’s most popular song released in the year under review, generating the most excitement amongst music lovers to date,” the letter stated.

Call for Transparency from TGMA
While acknowledging the credibility of the TGMA board, King Paluta’s team is calling for greater transparency in the selection process.
“We believe in the competence of the TGMA board and trust that a convincing reason will be issued to our team, music enthusiasts, and the general public regarding this unpopular decision of the board,” the letter continued.

Hope for Reconsideration
The management further expressed its willingness to engage with the board for a possible reconsideration of ‘Makoma’ in the relevant categories. Whether the TGMA board will respond remains to be seen, but this controversy has reignited conversations about fairness in Ghana’s biggest music awards scheme.
