Husband of Late ‘Ekwueme’ Gospel Singer  Sentenced to Death by Hanging

The husband of the late Nigerian gospel musician Osinachi Nwachukwu has been sentenced to death by hanging after being found guilty of causing her death.

A Federal High Court in Abuja delivered the ruling on Tuesday, April 23, 2025, after months of trial. The prosecution, led by the Nigerian government, charged Peter Nwachukwu with culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code. He was accused of subjecting Osinachi to years of domestic violence that ultimately led to her death in April 2022.

The court, presided over by Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme, ruled that the evidence presented—including testimonies from medical experts, family members, and Osinachi’s children—proved beyond reasonable doubt that the abuse inflicted by her husband caused her death.
